On the Settings tab, shown in Figure 15-3, you can provide a termination order for a task that has run too long, stipulate that a task not run if the computer is in use at the scheduled time (or stop running if someone begins using the computer), and tell the system not to run a task if the computer is running on battery power. On ACPI-compliant computers, the Power Management section of this dialog box includes a Wake The Computer To Run This Task check box. Selecting this check box ensures that your task will run at the scheduled time, even if the computer is in standby at the time. (For information about ACPI, see ACPI vs. APM, page 506.) On the Settings tab, you can also select a check box that will remove the task object from the Scheduled Tasks folder if, on the current schedule, it s never going to run again.

You are a domain administrator for Contoso Pharmaceuticals. One of the desktop administrators calls to report some peculiar results with four user accounts. Users are not supposed to have the Run command in their Start menus, but three out of four have it. The desktop administrator is puzzled. For the moment, let s see how to declare extension methods in VB.NET. Declaring extension methods in VB.NET In VB.NET, extension methods are shared methods decorated with a custom attribute (System.Runtime.CompilerServices.ExtensionAttribute) that allow them to be invoked with instance-method syntax. (An extension method can be a Sub procedure or a Function procedure.) This attribute is provided by the new System.Core.dll assembly.

The Task Scheduler node in the Group Policy console (Gpedit.msc) includes seven policies that you can use to curtail features relating to scheduled tasks. These policies are listed in Table 15-1. (The Group Policy console is available in Windows XP Professional only.)

The first parameter in a VB.NET extension method definition specifies which data type the method extends. When the method is run, the first parameter is bound to the instance of the data type against which the method is applied. Listing 2.17 shows how we would declare our TotalMemory extension method in VB.NET.

You learn that the GPO that doesn t seem to be working is named GPLabRemoveRun. You discover that someone has explicitly denied GPLabGroup2 the permission to Apply Group Policy for the GPLabRemoveRun policy. You also determined that GPLabRemoveRun is linked to the GPLab OU. To experience this issue, complete the following steps: 1. Log on to Server1 using the domain administrator name and password. 2. In the contoso.com domain container, create two users: GPLabUser1 and GPLabUser2.
